Gorge | hike
The Seisenberg Gorge in the Pinzgau is an impressive natural monument, known for its narrow ravines and roaring waterfalls. The well-maintained path leads through the gorge, offering spectacular views and great photo opportunities. Especially on hot summer days, the cool, moist air of the gorge provides a welcome refreshment.
I recommend visiting the Seisenberg Gorge on a Wednesday evening when the guided night walk “Water and Sound” takes place. This tour offers a mystical experience with torches and traditional music. Another highlight is the informational signs along the path, which tell fascinating stories about the “Klamgeist,” a local legend especially loved by children. Also, look out for the remnants of old lumberjack paths still visible today, offering insight into the historical use of the gorge.
The hike through the Seisenberg Gorge takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The circular trail is well-marked and leads through the entire gorge. Plan a bit more time to fully enjoy the breathtaking views and photo opportunities.
The hike through the Seisenberg Gorge is easy and suitable for beginners. The path is well-maintained and secure, but sturdy footwear is recommended as it can be slippery in places.
The best time to visit the Seisenberg Gorge is from May to October. In spring, the waterfalls are particularly impressive due to the meltwater, while autumn offers unique photo opportunities with its colorful foliage.
The Seisenberg Gorge is easily accessible by car. Parking is available at the entrance, and the gorge is well signposted and easy to find from Weißbach bei Lofer.
